Code of Conduct

As a participant of hackPHS, I agree to uphold the following pillars of character at all times while within school grounds during the event. I recognize that violating this code of conduct (or being judged to be in violation by event staff) will result in immediate expulsion and disqualification from the event at the sole discretion of hackPHS staff.

  1. All participants agree to uphold the MLH Code of Conduct to keep hackathons safe, welcoming spaces for everyone.

  2. Organizers, volunteers, judges, sponsors, or anyone in any other privileged position at the event should not participate as a hacker.

  3. All team members should actively participate in the event.

  4. Teams should leverage advice and support from organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and each other.

  5. All work on a project should be done during the period of the hackathon.

  6. Teams can use an idea they had before the event.

  7. Teams can work on ideas that have already been done. Hacks do not have to be “innovative.” If somebody wants to work on a common idea, they should be allowed to do so and should be judged on the quality of their hack. These days, it is hard to find something that is fully original, and teams might not know an idea has been done before anyway.

  8. Teams can work on an idea that they have worked on before, as long as they do not reuse code or other project materials.

  9. Teams must stop hacking once time is up. However, teams may debug and make small fixes after time is up. For example, if a bug discovered during a demo breaks the application and the fix is only a few lines of code, it is okay to fix it. Making large changes or adding new features is not allowed.

  10. Your code must be publicly available, ideally in a Git repository.

  11. Your code must remain public after the event to be eligible for prizes. If your repository and video are not public, new winners may be selected.

  12. Teams can be disqualified from the competition at the organizers’ discretion without provided justification. Reasons may include, but are not limited to, breaking the Competition Rules, breaking the Code of Conduct, or other unsporting behavior.

  13. hackPHS organizers have the final say and reserve all rights to remove any participant or team from hackPHS indefinitely. By participating in hackPHS, you agree to follow the rules of hackPHS, Princeton High School, and MLH, and justification is at no time whatsoever required or needed from hackPHS concerning violations, and in consequence punishments.

hackPHS Policy

Please note that by submitting to hackPHS, your project is bound by the hackPHS and MLH Codes of Conduct. hackPHS organizers reserve all rights to disqualify any and all projects deemed a violation of the Code of Conduct, based solely on their interpretation and discretion. The judgement of the hackPHS organizers is final and indisputable.
